Aims
This
is a one/two year full-time course and is designed for students who wish to pursue
a career in Childcare. It prepares students with the knowledge and skills to work with babies, young children, families and other staff. This course aims to equip; students to work unsupervised or in a supervisory capacity.
On successful
completion of the course, candidates who reach the required standard
will receive the following awards:
- FETAC Certificate in Childcare – Level 5 DCHSC
- FETAC Advanced Certificate in Supervision in Childcare – Level 6 – DCXXX
- Certificate in Occupational First Aid with Child CPR
- Certificates for Barnardos Training
- Team Building

Please note students will complete the required 8 modules in order to obtain a full level 5 certificate and a minimum of 5 level 6 modules to obtain a full level 6 Advanced Certificate

Candidates should be of Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent, or relevant experience in the area of childcare combined with a strong interest in working with children. Applications are especially invited from mature students. Final selection subject to interview and all applicants may be subject to Garda Vetting.

- Students may progress to further studies in institutions both in Ireland and the U.K. Check the FETAC Link and the CAO link on the links page for further details.
- Entry to many degree programme's in childcare and education, e.g. B.A. in Early Childhood Studies in U.C.C. or B.A. in Early Childhood Studies in Carlow I.T. - direct entry to 2nd year of course may be given based on Level 6 results.
