Irish Student excels in CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare & Education
Deirdre Claffey is a 19-year-old student just completing her CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education at Moate Business College, Moate, Co. Westmeath Ireland. The college had been successfully delivering the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education programme for the past eight years.
Over the past two years Deirdre has excelled in all aspects of the course from theory to the practical elements. As part of the programme Deirdre attended work placements two days a week working with children and babies from 0-8 years of age. Deirdre worked in a range of employments such as Crèches, Primary Schools and Montessori. Deirdre said ‘ I found the range of work placements to be an extremely important part of the course. I really enjoyed each placement as it allowed me to put the theory in to practice and to gain first hand experience’. Furthermore Deirdre commented that she found the ‘assignments very detailed as they helped her to gain a wider understanding of childcare’.
Her tutor Fionnuala Ryan commented that Deirdre was an excellent student not just practically but also academically. ‘Deirdre was an outstanding student, but what made Deirdre different was her motivation and determination to achieve her goal to successfully graduate from the childcare programme’
Deirdre completed her last work placement working in a local play–school called Busy Beavers in Ballycumber Co. Offaly. During this placement Deirdre was involved in the planning and delivery of routines and curricula for the young children. Deirdre commented that this was ‘a great experience as she was given more responsibility within the centre which helped to develop her confidence’.

Upon completion of the course Deirdre has been offered a full time job in Busy Beavers. ‘I was delighted when the manager approached me and offered me a job after I finish college’ Deirdre said.
For the future Deirdre hopes to continue working in the childcare profession and hopefully some day plans to open up her own successful business. |
