Niall Mellon/MBC Parachute Jump

Tutors Aileen Martin and Orlaigh Power took part in a charity Parachute Jump on 21st March in aid of the Niall Mellon Township Trust. There was a long wait on the day of the parachute jump for suitable weather conditions but eventually the clouds disappeared, the sun shone and people began to jump out of airplanes. Click here to see more pictures of the event.
On a serious note, Aileen Martin and Bernie Murtagh will both be traveling to South Africa in November to take part in the house building challenge. In order to take part in this challenge, €10,000 had to be raised. This figure has almost been reached and Aileen and Bernie would like to say a big thank you to the staff and students of Moate Business College and Moate Community School who have been unwavering in their support.
If you are interested in seeing how fundraising activities have been progressing so far, you can download the MBC Niall Mellon Newsletter from here.

Tourism - Taste of Eastern Europe
On Monday 13th October, Tourism co-ordinator Jean Bermingham organised an "Eastern European Awareness" morning. Our guest speakers for the morning were Katrzyna from Poland and Lolita from Lithuania. They gave the class an insight into their culture and traditions and how membership of the EU has changed both countries. The Diploma in Tourism and Travel Students of Moate Business College were then invited to sample Lithuanian and Polish food. Students were surprised at how appetising Lithuanian and Polish food is, particularly the bread, cheese, smoked sausages, biscuits, cakes and chocolate. However no one was brave enough to taste the "tongue and ear roll".
